Beware: Drunk driving is illegal and it kills!

An 18-year-old San Jose woman was arrested and charged with her friend's death after she was involved in a crash here in San Mateo County on Feb. 23.

Witnesses to the crash reported seeing the now-defendant traveling southbound along Highway 101 nearby its intersection with Whipple Avenue in the moments before the 3:15 a.m. crash. Witnesses saw the woman's 2018 Audi sedan travel off the side of the road near that Redwood City intersection before it veered off into an embankment and went airborne.

Individuals who saw the crash occur then reported seeing the Audi crash into a nearby light pole and two trees. It's only after the car made contact with these three objects that the vehicle finally came to rest on its roof. The teen's passenger is believed to have died instantly in the crash.

The driver of that Audi was transported to a nearby hospital where she was required to submit a blood alcohol content (BAC) test. Her percentage came back as between .06 and .07, at least .02 to .03 over California's legal limit for individuals 21 or over. The underage drinking limit is far lower than this.

Police questioned the woman that they believe is responsible for causing her passenger's death. She admitted to having consumed a lot of shots at a San Franciso party in the hours before the accident. Her bail has been set at $100,000. She's next expected to be in court for a preliminary hearing on May 4.

Drunk driving is illegal in California and elsewhere in the United States. The reason that's the case is because it greatly impairs a motorist's ability to use their fine motor skills to safely operate a vehicle. A car accidents attorney in San Mateo can aid you in protecting your rights when you have been injured in a serious accident. This includes helping you fine a wrongful death lawsuit if you've unnecessarily lost a loved one as well.
