Safety on the road is never a given. Drivers must always take the time to survey the roads and areas around them for possible hazards that may cause collisions. Unfortunately, it often doesn’t take a lot for a collision to cause injury, disability or even death.

One of the most important rules of the road is the one that bans driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Someone may cause severe damage to vehicles and bodies alike if driving at high speeds without proper control.

An accident in San Mateo County claimed a life and sent a driver to the hospital before he was brought to jail. A man was driving a car northbound on Highway 1 in Pescadero when his car crossed into the southbound lane, according to investigators.

The car hit a sport utility vehicle (SUV) head-on as its driver headed southbound when the car jumped lanes. Both drivers required medical attention for major injuries, while the passenger in the front seat of the car died on the scene.

The driver of the car was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) , as well as vehicular manslaughter in the case of his passenger. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) continues to investigate the accident.

Victims of car accidents, including drunk driving incidents, are able to sue the responsible parties for financial damages to help set their lives right. Seeking competent legal representation here in California may increase the chances of a lawsuit being successful in settlement, negotiation or jury trial in a civil court.
