A woman was six months pregnant when she was involved in an accident with a driver who is suspected of having been under the influence at the time of the crash. She had to deliver her baby three months early as a result.
Per reports, the woman was standing next to a Chevy Impala at the time. It was parked, and she was in front of it. At about 8:05 p.m., on Monday, April 8, a 23-year-old man came down the street in his Jeep. He drove off the road and hit the car. That impact smashed the car into the woman.
“I ran outside and I saw her laying on the ground,” said a woman who lived nearby. “She was trying to get up and I was trying to calm her down and keep her on the ground. She had a big laceration on her arm. I had somebody give me their shirt to put on her arm.”
The day before, the woman had been at a photo shoot for maternity pictures. After the accident, she found herself in the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. Her baby, delivered incredibly early, is also still in jeopardy.
“They’re both fighting for their lives, so it’s very hard to endure that,” her aunt said. “My faith keeps me strong, but I hurt on the inside because the baby, we’re not sure what’s going to happen.”
Being born three months early is a huge risk to a baby no matter what, but especially after life-threatening trauma to the mother.
The medical bills in a case like this can also be enormous. It’s important for those involved in car accidents to know how to seek compensation.
