1: Slips, trips and falls
Keeping the floors clean is a major undertaking at any retail establishment, but it’s one that must be taken seriously. Any spills should be cleaned up as quickly as possible, and signage must be put up. Additionally, cords and any other obstacles should be kept off the floors or secured in an appropriate manner.
2: Falling merchandise
Merchandise can fall from higher shelves if it’s not placed properly. Heavy items should be placed on lower shelves and everything must be placed on shelves neatly. Employees should also get help if they’re moving bulky or heavy items.
3: Customer violence
Customer violence is another significant hazard that retail workers face. This is especially true during special sale events. Security and proper training can help to mitigate these risks.
Employees who suffer an injury at work should get medical attention quickly, and they should ensure they fill out an incident report. Workers’ compensation should cover those expenses, as well as others related to the injury.
