A 50-year-old man in Los Angeles, California was attacked by at least two dogs recently. The man suffered serious injuries in the attack, and the police are investigating the attack. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and it sounds as though he suffered extensive bleeding as a result of his wounds.
There are few details in the article about how these dogs got out, or if their owners were even identified. The police have little information at this point. It will be interesting to see what comes out in this investigation in the coming days.
The first point of business with this story is the owners of the dogs, if there are any. Dog owners are responsible for their dogs — how they behave, how they are trained, and how they are contained and managed. If the owner fails in any of these respects (may the dog get out of an enclosure, act in an aggressive manner, or fail to properly obey basic training) then he or she can be held liable for any attack their dog perpetrates. And, thus, any injuries suffered by a victim (or victims) in that attack.
Dog attacks should never happen, because anyone who takes on the responsibility of owning a dog should properly train and secure their pets. When these owners are negligent, then they run the risk of being held liable in court.
